If you’ve felt stuck in cycles of depression or anxiety, you might be wondering whether there’s a way to truly shift things—something that doesn’t rely on daily medication alone. That search is exactly what led me into my work.

In August 2023, JAMA shared a powerful randomized clinical trial that helps bridge science and lived experience. Here’s what it found—and how it connects to what I witness in my practice.

What the 2023 Psilocybin Clinical Trial Found

  • Study design: 104 adults with moderate-to-severe depression were given either a 25mg dose of psilocybin or a placebo (niacin). All received therapeutic support, including prep sessions, a supervised psilocybin journey, and integration.

  • Results: By day 8, participants who received psilocybin showed significant improvement in depression symptoms, measured by a drop of ~12 points on the MADRS depression scale. These improvements lasted at least six weeks (day 43).

  • Safety: No serious adverse events were reported. Some participants experienced short-term side effects like headache or anxiety.

  • Big takeaway: A single guided psilocybin session—when paired with professional preparation and integration—led to meaningful, lasting relief for people living with depression.

Why This Matters for Mental Health

For decades, most treatment for depression and anxiety has relied on daily medications. This study shows that psilocybin-assisted therapy may offer something different: a single, intentional experience that opens the door to real change.

In my own practice, I’ve seen similar shifts. People struggling with depression, anxiety, self-criticism, grief, burnout, low self-esteem, or life transitions often find that psilocybin creates the space to reset, reflect, and reconnect to their own inner healing capacity.

Psilocybin Therapy in Oregon and Colorado

Because Oregon and Colorado have legalized psilocybin services, people now have the opportunity to access this kind of legal psychedelic therapy in a safe, supported setting.

As a woman- and queer-owned practice based in Portland, Oregon, I offer psilocybin sessions that combine compassionate facilitation, careful preparation, and meaningful integration.

I specialize in working with:

  • Adults navigating depression, anxiety, or trauma

  • Those struggling with burnout, self-criticism, or low self-esteem

  • People facing grief, loss, or end-of-life transitions

  • LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities seeking affirming care

  • Entrepreneurs, creatives, and those exploring life transitions or purpose
